Digital Inclusion in Gloucester: Helping Everyone Get Connected
In today’s world, being online is about more than just convenience—it’s about connection, confidence, and opportunity.
Meet Flora, one of our dedicated Community Builders in Gloucester, leading the Digital Inclusion Project in Gloucester, a programme making sure that everyone—no matter their background or situation—can be part of the digital world.
Closing the Digital Divide
Across Gloucester, many residents still face barriers to accessing technology or the internet. Some lack devices or affordable connectivity; others simply don’t know where to start.
The Digital Inclusion Project, led by the Gloucester Community Building Collective (GCBC) in Gloucester, is here to change that. Working from community hubs and local neighbourhoods, Flora and the team help residents gain digital skills, access devices, and learn at their own pace. From setting up emails and using online forms, to making video calls with family, these everyday steps open the door to independence and connection.
“It’s about giving people confidence—not just to use technology, but to take part in modern life.” – Flora, Community Builder
Transforming Lives, One Connection at a Time
In her work, Flora has supported residents who previously felt left behind—older adults learning to use smartphones, parents managing school communication apps, and job seekers finding new opportunities online.
Every session, every small success builds confidence. For many, it’s not only about skills but about overcoming isolation and finding a sense of belonging.
💻 Access to Devices: Helping residents find affordable or donated laptops and tablets.
📶 Connectivity Support: Building partnerships to tackle data poverty.
🤝 1-to-1 Help: Tailored sessions supporting people at their own pace.
🌍 Community Hubs: Friendly, local spaces where learning feels safe and social.
A Programme Rooted in Community
The Digital Inclusion Project is more than a training initiative—it’s a people-first movement.
Flora’s work shows that digital inclusion is social inclusion: when people gain digital confidence, they can access essential services, connect with loved ones, find work, and stay informed.
This project embodies what GCBC is all about—listening to community needs and turning connections into opportunities for growth.
Why This Work Matters
In a world that increasingly relies on online access, leaving anyone behind is not an option. Thanks to dedicated community builders like Flora, more people across Gloucester are learning that technology can be empowering, not intimidating.
Every new connection made is another step towards a more confident, digitally included, and connected city.
