Edwards 30 miles in 30 days
"My name is Edward, and I did 30 miles over 30 days in June. I walked one mile a day for a month and raised £281. I'm 52 with Down Syndrome and I have lived in Abbeydale for a few years.
I wanted to raise money for the Help NHS Heroes after I saw on the TV how much they were struggling, and I was frustrated because they needed help and wanted to do my part to help them."
Edward organised the fundraiser and spoke to people in Abbeydale to sponsor him for 30 miles, supported by Brandon Trust, he also had a Facebook sponsorship form set up.
Each day of June, Edward walked a mile around Abbeydale, doing different routes each day until he reached his 30-mile goal at the end of the month.
Edward walked during the heavy rain, the heatwave and everything in between, which made it hard and challenging. However, with support and encouragement from the Coffee Morning Group and Brandon Trust, Edward continued each day and reached his goal.
Edward said: "It was fun, though sometimes it was hard, but I overcame it, I had to relax, and I just carried on doing it again. I had help from Brandon Trust, who walked with me, and I got everyone to come join me each day."
Edward raised an incredible £281 from his sponsored work for the Help NHS Heroes.
"It was great doing it and made me feel good afterwards, and now I want to join the gym and do more activities. I want to go swimming and enjoy the jacuzzi as well.
I want to do more! I want to raise more money for different causes and help people with Down Syndrome. I think next I want to do a sponsored swim and then a bike ride to raise more money for charity.”
Edward shared his advice for anyone who would like to do the same, “If people want to do the same, I say carry on with it, and I can come along and willing to help because we all need help sometimes."
