The Recycled Teenagers
After the Covid restrictions lifted in May 2021, some residents in Longlevens wanted to start meeting face to face again. With many existing groups still meeting online, some residents began meeting at the Longlevens Community Centre.
We spoke with Gerry who said, “When the lockdown came on, we lost contact with one another and in June, people started asking when they were going to start again. I said I don’t know."
“I did my best to find out, but I found there was no one to answer the question.”
After Gerry found out about the community centre space, he let everyone know and residents began meeting again. Each week more and more residents joined, and the Recycled Teenagers group was formed.
“We meet up for holidays, days out, things to do and we are a very happy group.”
The group has brought residents together in the area, people who are isolated and can get involved in a relaxed environment. A place where they can talk about different problems or situations and support each other.
Gillian, a local resident who has been going to the Recycled Teenagers said, “Over Covid, everything went really quiet, and I think everyone’s mental health suffered because of the lockdown, and when this group started, I thought why not.”
The group have been involved in many different activities throughout the year, including a Christmas party, walks and the group are currently arranging a holiday together this summer.
