‘wearegloucester’ is an initiative set up by Gloucester Community Building Collective.
Edwards 30 miles in 30 days
Edward organised the fundraiser and spoke to people in Abbeydale to sponsor him for 30 miles, supported by Brandon Trust, he also had a Facebook sponsorship form set up.
Working with the Community - Longlevens Community Centre
The Longlevens Community Centre wanted to be more connected with the community, making it the community hub in the area.
Over the last year they have sponsored one of the local children’s football team, worked with and contribute to the Community Mini Bus, and have arrange some fantastic music and comedy nights at the centre.
The Recycled Teenagers
The group has brought residents together in the area, people who are isolated and can get involved in a relaxed environment. A place where they can talk about different problems or situations and support each other.
Snapping away
Kev, a local resident, loves capturing different elements of city life. During lockdown, he has been able to roam areas of Gloucester and take photos of familiar and unfamiliar places… Kev is self taught and has a passion for learning new skills.
We are here for you
Bert has been driving, delivering food parcels to the elderly and vulnerable as well as well as collecting prescriptions and just chatting to those struggling to let them know we are here for them.
Together is always better
Lindsey started to connect with neighbours and soon was able to persuade local counsellors to help support/provide some basic football goals for the green space to make it more appealing. This gave a Lindsey a taste for community improvements/ development and getting on with making it happen and not needing always to ask from outside support.
The Close that got closer
When Kate moved into a Close in Longlevens, having previously lived in Kingsholm where there was a willing and growing community spirit, she made a brave move to step out, take a risk and ask about the community connections where she had just moved into.
Jack is bloomin marvellous!
After school on Monday afternoons, Jack and his Mum started 'Mindful Monday' sessions, to help their own mental health and others and to help make a difference to peoples' lives and the environment.
Books are not just for reading
You find a quiet space, you open that book and then you can be transported away from the day to day grind of life. As we know books can really help with our mental health, our connectivity and is a great way of coping through the darker months, be it winter, or just a difficult time in our lives.
Elsie’s example
Elsie lived through the second world war in Gloucester and her Dad was one of the air raid wardens in Victoria Street. A little white painted circle outside the house marked who was one of the wardens and where the firewater was and the faint circle can still be seen today.
Guitar, will travel
Neal, like all people, have a gift or talent to share and has brought a bit of sunshine to others through Music. Neal grew up travelling the world with his Dad in the army so got use to being flexible and adapting.
Ernie and Josie light the way
Ernie and Josie and daughter Carol have been bringing a little Christmas cheer for the residents of Elmbridge for over 20 years. It all first started with Ernie and Josie back in the day wanting to do something for their daughter, who has learning difficulties, on her birthday on Christmas Eve. The school friends really enjoyed seeing the lights and even the teaches would visit with the students each year…
